MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA | 2 minutes read

MasterRemit is pleased to announce the launch of its international money transfer services to Bhutan, giving customers in Australia and New Zealand new ways to send funds to recipients across the country. The service introduces real-time bank deposits and cash pickup through Bhutan National Bank and Bank of Bhutan (BOB), providing recipients with options to access funds according to their banking needs.

The launch supports people in Australia and New Zealand who send money to family members and loved ones in Bhutan, including Bhutanese and Nepalese communities with family, work, and cultural connections across the region. For people supporting relatives or managing financial commitments across borders, access to different payout methods can make receiving funds more convenient.

New Ways to Receive Money in Bhutan

Customers sending money to Bhutan through MasterRemit can choose from the following payout options:

  1. Bank deposit: Funds are transferred directly to eligible bank accounts through supported banking channels. Transfers of up to approximately AUD 1 million are available, subject to applicable transaction requirements.

  2. Cash pickup through Bhutan National Bank: Recipients can collect funds at a participating branch once the transfer is ready for collection.

  3. Cash pickup through Bank of Bhutan: Recipients can collect their transfers in person at an eligible branch, providing an alternative for those who prefer cash access.

Cash pickup is facilitated through the supported Ria Money Transfer network. Recipients should have their transfer reference or PIN and valid identification ready, and confirm the relevant branch's collection requirements before visiting. Bank of Bhutan's published Ria guidance specifies a transfer PIN and CID card for cash collection.

The service fee starts from AUD 3.69, with the applicable fee, exchange rate, and transfer details available for review before the transaction is confirmed.

Each payout method undergoes the same regulatory compliance and security checks that govern all MasterRemit transfers. Customers see fees and the amount their recipient receives before they pay, and they can track each transfer from submission through to delivery.

"Bhutan is a new corridor for MasterRemit, and we are pleased to open it for the Bhutanese and Nepalese communities in Australia and New Zealand," said Hashim Omar, Chief Operating Officer at MasterRemit. "Real-time bank deposits and cash pickup through two established Bhutanese banks give families a fast, transparent way to stay connected."

Sending Money to Bhutan

Customers can begin by selecting Bhutan as the destination in the MasterRemit app or website, entering the transfer amount and choosing an available receiving method. They can then provide the recipient's details, review the exchange rate and applicable fee, and complete the payment and any required verification.

With bank deposits and two cash pickup networks available, customers can select a supported receiving method that suits their recipient's circumstances.
