MasterRemit today announces the expansion of its remittance services in Botswana, introducing real-time mobile wallet transfers and a reliable cash pickup network via Botswana Postal service. Effective 24September, customers can send money directly to Mascom Money wallets, giving recipients access to funds 24x7.
Mobile money adoption has expanded rapidly across Southern Africa in recent years, with many households now relying on digital wallets rather than traditional bank branches for everyday finances. With MascomMoney added, Australians sending money to Botswana can choose a delivery method that matches how their recipients actually manage money, with funds becoming available in real-time.
Alongside the Botswana launch, MasterRemit has strengthened its presence across the region. The new payout options give customers sending money to Botswana greater flexibility based on how their recipients prefer to receive and access funds.
Recipients can now choose from three payout methods:
Mobile wallet – Real-time transfers into Mascom MyZaka and Orange Money wallets, Botswana's leading mobile money service, accessible from any phone. This allows paying without needing a bank account.
Bank deposit – Funds sent directly into accounts at Botswana's major banks, including Absa Bank Botswana and Standard Chartered Bank Botswana from the MasterRemit app.
Cash pickup – Cash collected in person through any Botswana Postal Service (BotswanaPost) network, with branches located nationwide, ideal for recipients to visit one locally
These enhancements ensure the diaspora community in Australia can support loved ones with greater flexibility, whether through bank deposits, mobile wallets, or secure cash collection points. Each payout method undergoes the same regulatory compliance and security checks that govern all MasterRemit transfers.
"Our goal is to provide a low-friction, high-speed financial bridge for our Botswana customers," said Hashim Omar, Chief Operating Officer at MasterRemit. "By expanding payout options in Botswana and strengthening our networks across neighbouring countries, we are delivering on our promise of convenience and financial inclusion of African nations."
